ITIN Approval for a Non-Resident Spouse Filing Jointly

A Canadian resident married to a US taxpayer needed an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number in order to file a joint US return and claim the deductions available to the couple. Acting as an IRS Certified Acceptance Agent, we certified the applicant’s identification documents in person, prepared Form W‑7, and submitted the joint return package directly to the IRS without requiring the client to mail original passports anywhere. Outcome: the ITIN was approved and the couple’s joint return was filed accurately and on time.
