RRSP and US Tax Reporting for a Canadian Retiree Relocating to Florida

A Canadian retiree relocating permanently to Florida held a Registered Retirement Savings Plan and was unsure how it needed to be reported once she became a US tax resident. We confirmed her reporting obligations for the RRSP, applied the treaty-based tax treatment to her plan withdrawals, and filed her first-year US returns alongside the required foreign account disclosures. Outcome: the RRSP was reported correctly from her first year of US residency, with no double taxation on withdrawals.
